Tamvakis

Professor Michael Tamvakis trained as an economist at the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece. He then joined the International Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance at the (then) City University Business School; first as a student on its MSc programme, and then as a member of its academic staff. He received his PhD from City and is currently Professor of Commodity Economics and Finance at Cass.

He lectures in international commodity trade, commodity derivatives, energy economics and shipping economics. He has served as Associate Dean for Undergraduate programmes at Cass, and as Course Director for both the MSc in Shipping, Trade & Finance and the MSc in Energy, Trade & Finance.

His research interests are in the areas of commodity economics, energy derivatives and shipping economics. He has published in academic journals such as Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Journal of Alternative Investments, Journal of Derivatives, Transportation Review Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review and Maritime Policy and Management. He has contributed to several edited books and is the author of Commodity Trade & Finance, whose second edition was published in March 2015.
He is also a regular contributor and commentator on commodity and energy issues to the press, including BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service.
