Academic Director

Dr Ioannis C. Moutzouris is the Associate Dean for Engagement; an Onassis Senior Lecturer in Shipping Finance and Analytics; and the Shipping and Energy Research Programme Lead at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass), City, University of London. He also acts as a principal academic adviser at the UK Department for Transport.

Ioannis is currently leading the “Digitisation, Maritime Operations, and Finance” theme of the UK National Clean Maritime Research Hub (UK-MaRes Hub) which is focused on decarbonising the UK maritime sector. His research has been published in leading shipping, energy, and commodity academic journals.

He was the Director of the Energy, Trade and Finance MSc course at Bayes from August 2021 to July 2023. Ioannis has acted as a consultant in the shipping industry and has delivered numerous seminars to practitioners and regulators. He has also worked as a Supervising Naval Architect and Marine Engineer during the construction of Peers 2 and 3 at the Piraeus Container Terminal in Greece.

Ioannis studied Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (BEng and MEng). He holds an MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance; an MRes in Finance; and a PhD in Finance from Bayes Business School (formerly Cass). He has also worked at Bayes as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Digital Currencies (for an EPSRC-BoE project).
