Michael Tamvakis 

Professor Tamvakis is a Professor of Commodity Economics and Finance, and the Director of Energy, Trade & Finance in the Cass Business School. He trained as an economist at the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece, and then joined the International Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance at the (then) City University Business School; first as a student on its MSc programme, and then as a member of its academic staff, when he also received his PhD. Between April 2003 and March 2009 he was the Associate Dean for undergraduate programmes at Cass. Professor Tamvakis lectures in international commodity trade, commodity derivatives and trading, energy economics and shipping economics.

Dr. Yanos Michopoulos

Dr. Yanos Michopoulos has more than 25 years of international Energy experience, covering both the private and the public sectors. He studied Physics first at Athens University (BSc) and then at Durham University in the UK (PhD). After a spell as a University Professor at universities in the UK and Austria, he spent 18-year with Shell International in various positions at Global and Regional levels. His last job in Shell was Regional General Manager for Shell Marine Products, responsible for Med, Middle East and Africa. He left in 2008 to become CEO of the only Rail Operator in Greece, TRAINOSE.

Yanos joined Vestas, the No 1 Wind Turbine Manufacturer in May 2009 as Vice President, responsible for Sales and Operations to major local and international energy and utility companies in Greece, Cyprus and other Balkan countries.

As of January 2013 Yanos has an additional role in Vestas as Vice President for Business Development for Central & Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa. His main responsibilities are to explore new growth opportunities, as well as for coordinating Vestas’ interests in the various emerging markets in the region.
