As a society we show increased preference to consume our energy in the form of electricity and it is now urgent for our electricity to be sustainable, as well as secure and affordable. Renewables are at the heart of addressing the energy trilemma, but as their share of electricity supply increases, so does variable renewable electricity (VRE) generation and the need to balance it. Traditional balancing fuels, such as gas, may not be as cheap or secure as we thought they were.

Energy storage, such as batteries, is at the forefront of designing more complex, yet still flexible, electrical grids, which can keep us on track for decarbonization, while maintaining system reliability and security.

At our latest event, we are discussing the journey so far, and the challenges and opportunities for the future, of energy storage.
